About SRC Vice President

Abdul-Manan Femanya Mahama’s leadership journey began humbly yet purposefully, rooted in a simple but strong belief: leadership is about service, not position. His political story started in his first year, when he took up the role of Course Representative — not fully aware it was a political position at the time. What drove him was the discomfort of seeing a potential leader who lacked commitment or the willingness to serve. Guided by a personal conviction to set higher standards, Abdul-Manan stepped forward, determined to be the change he wanted to see.

His passion for leadership grew as his journey unfolded. In his second year, he was appointed to the Judicial Committee of the Faculty of Engineering Students Association (FESA). This position allowed him to broaden his understanding of student governance, especially the judicial arm. Simultaneously, he served in the FESA Senate — the association’s legislative body — where he played an active role in committee work and was part of the historic process of initiating constitutional restructuring within the association.

In his third year, Abdul-Manan further advanced his leadership path by serving as the Senate Chairman (Speaker) of the Association of Computer Science and Engineering Students (ACSES). In this role, he led the legislative arm of the association, building on the valuable experience and knowledge he had gathered from his time in FESA. That same year, he was appointed as the Dr. Michael Tetteh Kofi Hall (KT Hall) Public Relations Officer, where he once again had the opportunity to serve as an executive.

In this role, he honed his communication and public engagement skills, working closely with the hall administration and fellow students to promote initiatives, strengthen student relations, and ensure the smooth flow of information between the leadership and the hall residents. Each of these roles served as a stepping stone, shaping his leadership philosophy and preparing him for higher responsibility.

Today, Abdul-Manan Femanya Mahama proudly serves as the Vice President of the University of Mines and Technology Students’ Representative Council (UMaT SRC). As Vice President, his mission is centered on supporting the President and the SRC administration to achieve its goals while championing the welfare of every UMaT student. He is passionate about creating a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive student environment where everyone feels empowered to excel. For Abdul-Manan, leadership is not just a moment — it’s a movement of impact, growth, and collective progress.
